I have read around the web many people saying that Winamp 3 was a much worste application than the previous version. I could not believe that, I just thought they were the usual complains from 'conservative' minds. Winamp 3 looked like a 'Good Thing': 'free form' skins and a new and more customizable architecture. But unfortunately, I must agree: I have just uninstalled 'Winamp 3' from my computer (I may give it a try in a future). I had several problems while trying to play HTTP streams: first the application seemed to ignore the Proxy settings, and then it was not playing the files. Winamp 2 did: so I installed it and I am now using it. (Besides, the 'Winamp 3' skins are not impressive at all).
The funny thing is I have never been keen on Winamp 2. Even if I though is a good application, I could not stand its GUI. Everything is too small, and all the buttons are too close. I basically hate the font size, specially since I work with 800x600 or 1024x768: it is too small to read. But the application has many other impresive features: thousands of plug-ins (nearly for anything), the size and memory consumption, and the realiability. But I am currently using it: with a good skin, it is not so hard to use.
Despite of this recently born Winamp love, I am still a fan of Zinf. Since I like big fonts and huge buttons, you sure understand why do I like Zinf: the default skin has gigantic fonts, and it is easy to see. Also the application is simple has has a very small CPU consumption. There are very few plug-ins, but Zinf works fine. And I support the OpenSource idea behind it.
